SAVI Steps Out
SAVI (Surrey Association for Visually Impaired)run a Friendship club each month for 20 elderly members who are registered blind with a combined sight and hearing loss, encouraging people to lead full and independent lives. It is a unique group that benefits from ‘an integrated and efficient service to support their very special needs.'
Our contribution of £1,000 enabled SAVI Friendship club members to enjoy lunches and day trips once a month during 2008.
Julie Barclay, Senior Assessor for Combined Sight and Hearing Loss said:
‘The Worthing trip in August, for which we hired a mini bus that was adapted for wheelchairs, was a great success... For one of our members it was the first time she has been to the seaside for 20 years and it was quite emotional, when we took her out on the pier, for her and us.'
