Towards the end of December last year, we awarded funding to Bike Active North Suffolk. They are a small charity based in Saxmundham, Suffolk. They provide their service users with safe cycling experiences on traffic-free cycle paths or quiet lanes.
They help to remove barriers and provide support so that any adult in North Suffolk can access recreational cycling as part of a group and enjoy the many benefits it brings. They used our grant to purchase a folding e-trike for use by their clients.
They promote cycling as a gentle form of exercise within a beautiful rural environment, benefiting both physical and mental well-being and combating social isolation. Delivered by a dedicated team of trained volunteers, BANS specialises in providing adapted cycling opportunities for any adult with a disability or differing needs.
The charity's feedback to us highlighted how popular the trike is with clients as the e-assist allows them to ride independently even if they don’t have the strength or mobility to ride a standard cycle. As it is a trike, it is suitable for those who don’t have the balance or confidence to ride a two-wheeled bike. The addition of this e-trike to their cycle fleet means that they are able to accommodate a wider range of abilities.
