Goldies Festive 'Big Sings'

/ December 2023
Golden Oldies

We recently awarded funding to The Golden-Oldies Charity. They were established in 2007 and are fondly known as 'Goldies'. They deliver fun daytime social Sing&Smile community groups aimed primarily at adults aged over 65 years. Their focus is in supporting health, wellbeing and independent living by combating loneliness and isolation.

Our funding went towards transport costs for getting their members to and from their planned hosting of a large-scale BIG SING for Christmas, but as the demand to attend the event increased dramatically, they realised that they would need to run multiple events instead of one. They then provided three Goldies Festive BIG SING’s.

One was held in Bristol and South Gloucestershire where they had a light lunch with entertainment. There were 95 attendees from 8 Goldies Sing&Smile groups across both counties, with free transport provided.

The second was held on 5th December in Bath & Northeast Somerset. There they had a light lunch with entertainment from Timsbury Primary School, SOSA Dance and the U3A Ukulele Group. There were 105 attendees from 9 Goldies Sing&Smile groups from across the county also with free transport provided.

The final event took place on 14th December at Nailsea Methodist Church. A light lunch was provided with entertainment from the Kookie Ukes Ukulele group. There were 70 attendees from 5 Goldies Sing&Smile groups from across the county with free transport provided.
