Lighthouse (West Yorkshire)
/ April 2026In July last year we awarded funding to Lighthouse (West Yorkshire). They are a Christian charity based in Leeds, that work with adults who have been battered and bruised by the storms of life.
With our support they were able to organise a group trip to Filey beach in North Yorkshire, which was enjoyed by forty-five of their members. They paddled in the waves, built sandcastles, and had fish and chips on the seafront.
For many of their members, this was their first trip to the seaside, and it was a delight for all. Their summer trips are a great way to spend time together as a Lighthouse family, strengthening healthy friendships and making happy & often healing memories. Their feedback to us highlighted just how much they truly value the support our support, without which these trips would not be possible.
Trips like these allow their members to detach from the emotional turmoil of their complex lives, enjoying the small things most of us take for granted. This trip was no different, and they noticed just how much the break was needed for them all. They were able to relax, laugh, have fun, and forget about the difficulties in their home lives.
Quotes from their members included:
"This was the best day of my life. I'm so happy!"
“Everything was new for me, everything was very good, I’d like to go again!”
"It has been a wonderful day. I haven’t been to the beach before and today I paddled and jumped in the water. Amazing".
