Moorland Community Care Group
/ July 2026We awarded funding to Moorland Community Care Group. They are a small, local charity that serves the community by providing companionship and support to those who are vulnerable in South Devon. The money was used to fund a number of trips from their Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, and Bovey Tracey Moor Social groups.
The first trip was to South Devon Railway followed by a cream tea, where 21 clients attended. The grant allowed them to staff the trip, provide supplies such as refreshments on the train, cover transport costs to the station and to pay for client’s who were struggling financially. They all said that it had been a wonderful day, and many, despite living in the area, have never been on the steam railway.
The second trip was to Dartmouth from their Bovey Tracey Moor Social with 17 clients and the third trip was to Dartmouth from their Ashburton and Bovey Tracey Moor Social groups with 24 clients. Our funding enabled them to pay for a minibus, as well as other transport costs. Also included was an hour long boat trip on the River Dart in a vintage paddleboat for all that attended. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed an hour and a half exploring Dartmouth.
The group reported to us that this started their trips programme off beautifully for the summer and it was amazing to be able to give people the opportunity to experience new things. It was lovely to bring in newer clients to existing friendship groups and to strengthen bonds. Exploring Dartmouth was key to ensuring everyone had time to build confidence and relationships. The joy was clear to see on everyone’s faces.
