Enjoying life

June 2026
Four friends on the beach

The Rainbow Friendship Centre is one of the longest established day centres in Glasgow, and we funded three outings for their members last Augus to Helefribureh, Largs and the Burrell Collection Museum.

The funding provided gave many of the members an opportunity for a summer day out that they would have otherwise been unable to have. Many of the centre's members are unable to get out independently and for some their attendance at the centre is the only regular outing they have. To be able to visit these different areas of interest, gave members a change to a regular day which uplifted their moods.

Strolling around the shops is something that doesn't happen often for many of the centre's members (with some relying on family/carers to either purchase goods for them or arranging to take them out). ln Largs, members had a sense of satisfaction being able to wander around the shops with trained staff on hand providing comfort and care when required. Being able to shop independently, increased the confidence for many of the members.

On the centre's fully adapted bus, members and staff enjoyed the scenic journeys to Helensburgh and Largs. lt gave them more options of things to chat about (e.g. places of interest, reminiscing). There were plenty laughs on the trips, which gave members an opportunity to have fun and improve their mood. Breathing in the fresh air on the trips, and
the warm dry weather, helped uplift the members and provide them with happiness.
