Yorkshire & Humber Asbestos Support Group (SARAG) were pleased to receive funding from us towards the yearly Christmas lunch that they provide for their members and supporters. The Charity provides support to those affected by asbestos related conditions and their support is available across Yorkshire, Humberside and North Nottinghamshire.
The grant supported a Christmas Lunch event held at the Rotherham Holiday Inn, an accessible venue within our region. The venue was chosen specifically for its inclusivity, offering ample free parking, step-free access, and toilet facilities located very close to where guests were seated, ensuring comfort and dignity for all attendees.
A total of 110 service users and supporters attended. Locations are rotated annually to ensure accessibility across the region, and transport was provided for those unable to travel independently, with travel costs covered for individuals experiencing financial hardship.
The day was designed to be warm, inclusive and celebratory. Attendees enjoyed a three-course Christmas meal, followed by a Christmas-themed quiz, a group sing-along, and a raffle with prizes. The shared meal, activities and informal peer support helped people build friendships, strengthen support networks and increase confidence. Many left feeling uplifted, more connected and reassured that they are not alone.
