Funding was awarded to Sport4health. As an organisation they have been running since 2007, initially set up as a Community Interest Company before converting to a registered charity. Based in London, they work in an area which is in the top 10/15% of highest deprivation in the country. Their principal objective as a charity is to help disadvantaged people to have better physical and mental health.
Our grant was used to buy hot food for older people so that they could have a hot meal after their activities and save on spending as they were all greatly affected by the cost of living crisis.
They spread the grant out over 10 weeks by spending £200 per week on hot food for 25-30 older people. As they are promoting health, they used a supplier who only used non frozen produce and no products containing monosodium glutamate. They also catered for their older people with different dietary requirements.
One of their regular single participants, had her birthday recently which coincided with one of their sessions, which meant that she had a really nice time with everyone and could have a proper celebration with the group, rather than being alone on her special day as would have normally been the case.
