In September this year we awarded funding to Wendy, who was diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome, a serious neurological condition that affects the lower spinal nerves.
Our grant was spent to adapt Wendy's car with hand controls so that she could drive again. The hand controls were needed, because she lost the full use of her legs, and hand controls were the only option to being able to drive.
Wendy sent us this feedback:
"It is hard to put into words how much this funding means to me, but it has already changed my life. I have been able to visit friends and family that I haven’t seen for many years, because I had to rely on the availability of friends and neighbours to take me places.
I have been able to go and watch one of my nephew’s football matches and will now be able to attend his next round match in the Scottish Cup Youth Team. This means so much, because before I became disabled, I used to take him to all his football training sessions.
I can now go on my own to do shopping when the weather is bad and not feel trapped with the limitations of my mobility scooter in bad weather. There are so many other things I have been able to do and now want to do with this freedom your grant has given me through your generous funding. It has given me back, not only my independence, and my freedom, it has also made me feel useful again, and not a burden on anyone. Thank you for helping me get my life back."
